A few weeks ago I opened the cutest bags of tamales I have ever seen in the mail…wait, I have never seen a bag of tamales sent in the mail – have you? Probably not. Truthfully, this was my first spin at eating Tamales, let alone famous Texas Tamales from Houston.
The Texas Tamale Company formed thirty years ago when they created LARD FREE tamales in Houston, Texas. Since then, they have grown from a street-side cart to being served at VIP parties and professional sporting arenas.
The most important thing to know about these delicious tamales (and any tamale for that matter) is to discard the wrapper after heating. Yes, I took a bite of the wrapper and realized quickly that it was not a “crust.” Once I shrugged that mishap off, I dug my fork into the doughy beef center with the perfect blend of Texas spices. I added some salsa for dipping and the perfect lunch was formed.
The Texas Tamale Company sent me every flavor tamale to taste and I would have to say my favorite so far is the beef. Other flavors that I received were the chicken, black bean, spinach and pork. I can imagine how happy someone would be to receive these tamales in the mail. I was jumping up and down opening all the packages and I knew they were coming.
